Commissions

One may ask, "What is a commissioned painting?"  It's a process where a client hires an artist to create a piece of artwork based on their preferences for size, color, etc. In some instances, the client provides a photograph they took or, with permission, another person took, or the client may have see an earlier painting done by the artist that they like and wants a similar one painted for their home, office or collection. You get to decide what size a painting you want and what the content of the painting will be.  I've done several commissioned paintings for clients that were based on photographs and many that were based on a painting that I posted on social media that the client liked enough to ask for me to paint it again. Below are a few of the photographs of the original photo provided as inspiration for the painting, the painting itself, and a little of the story of the client's request.

Dunn Family Farm, New York

A friend commissioned two paintings in the last few years of the family dairy farm where he grew up in New York for his sisters, each taken from a different angle. Both photographs were used as inspiration for the paintings, and while they contain the exact placement of buildings and trees, he left me enough artistic flexibility to enhance the paintings as I wanted to.

My daughter, Anita, took a beautiful photo of a sunrise in January 2015 on my mom's birthday three months before my mom passed away. When I asked Anita what I could paint her for her new house, she asked for this memory to be put into a painting. I took a little artistic liberty to brighten the scene.

I was granted permission to use the photos of the following animals to paint for several on-line art auctions I conducted to raise funds for a small non-profit called the Carolina Corral located in St. John, Virgin Islands.

And as a gift to Dana Bartlett who runs the Carolina Corral, I painted a portrait of her companion and assistant manager at the Corral, Pippin!
